Director of Residential Life and Student Engagement

The Resident Director for Residential Education and Community Development is a full-time, 12-month professional staff member responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive residential education program that promotes student success, engagement, and community building.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and administer residential life programs for residence halls, including student development and operations components.
- Maintain inventory of residential programming supplies and support the Director of Residence Life and University Housing in creating tools to assess department progress and effectiveness.
- Conduct regular building tours, investigate reported damages, and implement the damage billing process as necessary.
- Provide on-going individual and group supervision for student staff, evaluate student staff, and make recommendations regarding performance.
- Facilitate training for student staff, recruit and select applicants for Graduate Assistant, Resident Assistant, and Student Worker positions.
- Support and administer all university and departmental policies, regulations, and conduct standards.
- Serve as a conduct hearing officer to effectively resolve cases of student misconduct within an educational and developmental framework.
- Manage situations involving various psychological, emotional, medical, or other safety-related emergencies or incidents in the residence hall.
- Participate in daily and weekend duty coverage, build community in buildings by maintaining a regular presence, and respond appropriately to incidents occurring after hours in the residence hall.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- A minimum of 2 years' professional experience in residence life, housing, student affairs, or other relevant work in a university or college setting.
- Supervisory experience of master's level professionals.
- Experience with StarRez, including housing assignments, billing, room changes, and reports.
- Prior student conduct experience in the resolution of high-level disciplinary cases and appeals.
- Demonstrated aptitude for dealing with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and mediation.
- Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
- The capacity to work effectively with a variety of constituencies, including students, parents, staff, and faculty.
- Effective and creative leadership skills.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Proven track record of managing budgets and meeting budgetary goals.
- Must be well organized and able to work under pressure with multiple deadlines in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in emergency management and/or behavioral/mental health intervention activities.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body.
- Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Ability to demonstrate commitment to personal and departmental development, professionalism, intercultural education, creativity, collaboration, and initiative.
- Experience in an urban college or university with a residential and large commuter student population.
The job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of a desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.
