The Role: The Student Engagement Program Coordinator is tasked with the development, execution, and enhancement of interactive, hands-on educational programs for both onsite and offsite student groups through virtual and in-person Learning Labs, exhibit exploration guides, and additional resources. This position is integral to the Student Learning team, which focuses on youth-centered STEM programming.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research, design, implement, and facilitate science education programs tailored to diverse learning needs, adhering to best practices in formal, informal, and virtual education.
  • Adapt instructional methods for a varied student demographic, considering grade level, ability, developmental stage, and cultural background.
  • Stay informed on trends in science education and relevant local, state, and national standards (e.g., NGSS), regularly updating programs to reflect these changes and advancements in teaching methodologies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with educational partners to effectively recruit a diverse range of program participants and foster productive collaborations within the educational community.
  • Ensure program quality through ongoing modifications and improvements based on feedback and evaluations from management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to organize and execute special events, including student gatherings, educator open houses, and donor events.
  • Support interns, team members, and volunteers involved in educational initiatives.
  • Oversee the inventory and maintenance of program equipment and supplies, ensuring all materials are stocked and functional.
  • Represent the Museum at community partner meetings and outreach initiatives.
  • Provide comprehensive reporting on program metrics to various internal departments, including attendance and participant feedback.
  • Work with internal and external evaluators to track program participation and demographics, continually refining programs based on outcomes and impact.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, science, or a related field, accompanied by three to five years of relevant experience in education.
  • Strong understanding of diverse learning strategies across various environments, including schools, science centers, and community organizations.
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation is essential; two years of direct experience is preferred.
  • Proven ability to engage with diverse audiences and a commitment to appreciating the rich diversity of communities.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Fluency in Spanish is advantageous.
  • A genuine passion for nurturing the curiosity of young learners.
  • A strong affinity for science and education.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, initiative, and adaptability are crucial traits for this role.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting, demonstrating strong collaboration skills.
  • Excellent project management, planning, and organizational capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking proficiency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
  • Language skills include the ability to read and interpret various documents, write routine reports, and effectively communicate in group settings.
  • Mathematical skills include the ability to calculate figures and understand basic mathematical concepts.
  • Reasoning skills involve solving practical problems and interpreting a variety of instructions.
  • Physical requirements include regular use of hands, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • The work environment typically has a moderate noise level.
