We are currently looking for a Cardiac Perfusion Specialist to become a vital part of our esteemed medical team. This role is ideal for individuals who are newly licensed or possess up to five years of experience in a cardiac clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heart-lung machines and related equipment under the guidance of professional staff, ensuring continuous blood flow and respiration for patients undergoing cardiac procedures.
  • Maintain comprehensive perfusion records, documenting pump data, laboratory values, and activated clotting times.
  • Evaluate patients for eligibility for autologous pre-bypass blood donation and perform collections as necessary.
  • Monitor and adjust the system to facilitate the patient's transition to independent respiratory and circulatory function.
  • Disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and storage.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to determine the appropriate perfusion equipment based on patient records.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on perfusion equipment and manage inventory of supplies.
  • Assist in training new perfusion staff and contribute to quality assurance initiatives as per hospital protocols.
  • Support the setup of intra-aortic balloon catheters and ventricular assist devices in the operating room.
  • Engage in research projects related to cardiopulmonary bypass and perfusion, contributing to the development of standard procedures and protocols.
  • Facilitate continuing education for staff through seminars and presentations on relevant perfusion topics.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree is required, along with graduation from an accredited perfusion program. Candidates should have experience as a staff perfusionist, preferably with less than three years in a cardiac clinical environment.

This position operates in a sterile environment, with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and anesthetic gases. The role requires physical stamina, including walking, standing, and the ability to lift and position patients.
