Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Device Technician to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the management of patients with cardiac implantable electrical devices (CIEDs) and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and document remote pacemaker, ICD, and implantable loop recorder (ILR) transmissions and alerts on a daily basis.
  • Communicate findings requiring further attention with responsible medical directors or nurse practitioners.
  • Enroll, educate, schedule, and maintain patients in various remote monitoring systems.
  • Assist with management and maintenance of the remote monitoring program.
  • Triage reports on a daily basis, notify patients of follow-up, assist patients with transmissions, troubleshoot issues with remote monitoring systems, and assist with device advisories/recalls.
  • Provide assistance in scheduling and other administrative duties related to the device center.
  • Assist with 'off-schedule' or PRN in-person device interrogations in the device clinic.
  • Interrogate, interpret, and program a wide range of cardiac devices with minimal provider supervision.
  • Troubleshoot cardiac device issues and take immediate steps towards resolution.
  • Collaborate with physician/nurse practitioner regarding device status and accurately document device analysis for review.
  • Educate patients on all aspects of their device, including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in the biomedical field strongly preferred.
  • Successful completion of a full Cardiac Device Educational Program (i.e., PrepMD) or one year's experience in Electrophysiology is strongly preferred.
  • Current experience reviewing and managing remote device transmissions is strongly preferred.
  • Certification by IHBRE within two years of employment is strongly preferred and encouraged but not mandatory.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification is required within the first year of employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
  • The ability to work as a team member, promoting a caring and collegial attitude towards fellow employees.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstration of independent judgment within the scope of this position.
  • Well-developed organizational skills in order to determine the needs of patients.
  • The ability to stand, walk, and bend for an extended period of time.
  • Demonstration of flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles as a member of the patient care team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, perform simple arithmetic calculations in English required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using voicemail, email, fax machine, telephone, etc.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
