Position Summary
The Senior Mechanical Technician will undertake a range of responsibilities to support the fabrication, integration, and testing of spaceflight systems and associated equipment. This role may require flexibility to work either the first or second shift based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, test, and inspect mechanical spacecraft components by interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications, as well as adhering to established assembly, integration, and testing protocols.
- Conduct second-party verifications and visually assess mechanical assemblies against engineering specifications and assembly procedures.
- Operate various materials handling equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes, as well as other ground support equipment as necessary.
- Travel may be required to support specific operational needs.
- Utilize a diverse range of machine tools, including drill presses, grinders, and both power and hand tools.
- Collaborate closely with Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Procurement, and Shipping teams on procedural matters related to design, methods, tooling, cost, and product quality control.
- Provide support in additional mechanical areas as directed by Millennium Space Systems Leadership based on business requirements.
- Possess delegated inspection authority for all second-party verification processes.
- Mentor and cross-train new employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical or propulsion assembly, preferably in high-reliability aerospace products.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Familiarity with assembly tooling and/or composite fabrication and assembly.
- Experience with various hand and power tools.
- Experience in mixing epoxy materials.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with assembly tooling and/or composite fabrication and assembly.
- 5+ years of machine shop experience.
- 5+ years of integration experience.
- 2+ years of orbital tube welding experience in aerospace.
- Experience in a clean room environment.
Compensation Overview
The salary range provided below is a general guideline for the position. Actual salaries will be determined based on candidate experience, qualifications, and market considerations.
- Grade 24: $27.32/hr - $43.73/hr
