Position Summary

The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) is at the forefront of innovative research and development, providing technical evaluations during the acquisition phase, and supporting conceptual and detailed design, assembly, integration, testing, and operational support. The Mechanical Systems Department (MSD) consists of approximately 20-25 engineers dedicated to ensuring the reliability and integrity of moving mechanical assemblies (MMAs) and explosive devices used in spacecraft, launch vehicles, and missile systems.

The Launch Mechanisms Section is tasked with the assessment of requirements, design, analysis, and testing of MMAs for launch vehicles and missile systems, adhering to industry standards. This section collaborates closely with various technical disciplines, program offices, and contractors to meet customer mission objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and analyze moving mechanical assemblies and explosive devices for launch vehicle, spacecraft, and missile applications.
  • Review and assess design specifications, analysis outcomes, test plans, and relevant standards.
  • Conduct modeling and analyses of moving mechanical assemblies, deployment, and separation systems.
  • Collaborate with technical staff and management to resolve engineering challenges and ensure mission success.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders and customers.
  • Support technical initiatives and collaborate with senior staff on program-related tasks.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position of Senior Mechanical Engineer - Aerospace Systems, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline is required.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in launch vehicle, spacecraft, or missile program support in engineering or physical sciences is essential.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work outside standard hours to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if candidates possess:

  • An advanced degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience with mechanical design, mass properties, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with hardware integration and testing protocols.
  • Knowledge of multi-body dynamics analysis and hydrocode analysis tools.
  • Experience with bearings, gear trains, and moving mechanical assemblies.
  • Understanding of AIAA-S-114, SMC-S-016, and/or NASA-STD-5017A standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • An active U.S. government security clearance.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package that reflects your performance and the value you bring to our organization. The salary range for this position is $100,300 - $150,400 annually, determined by various factors including education, experience, and skills.
