Senior Materials Specialist

Overview

Lenovo is a global leader in innovative technology solutions, dedicated to delivering exceptional products that empower individuals and businesses worldwide. We are currently seeking a Senior Materials Specialist to join our esteemed Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG). This pivotal role will leverage materials expertise to enhance server development, manufacturing, and field support, focusing on a variety of materials including metals, polymers, and printed circuit boards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cooling System Development: Spearhead the analysis and design of advanced cooling systems, including Direct Water Cooling (DWC) and Two-phase Cooling, specifically for Edge Computing and High-Performance Computing servers. Collaborate closely with thermal engineering teams to optimize thermal efficiency and reliability.
  • Materials Evaluation: Employ a range of analytical tools, such as optical microscopes and Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), to evaluate server materials. Conduct detailed assessments through cross-sectioning of components.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside various engineering disciplines, including power and electromagnetic compatibility engineering, to provide essential materials-related insights that support server product innovation.
  • Supplier Engagement: Interact with suppliers to ensure adherence to quality and reliability standards. Review and analyze supplier reports to guide materials selection and procurement strategies.
  • Analytical Reporting: Generate comprehensive analytical reports that communicate findings effectively to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop roadmaps to enhance thermal solutions, particularly focusing on liquid cooling technologies and product design.
  • Material Research: Lead studies on new materials, particularly in relation to two-phase cooling systems, assessing compatibility and environmental impact to meet sustainability standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in materials engineering within the technology sector.
  • Strong foundation in organic chemistry and polymeric material properties.
  • Proficient in using analytical equipment, including SEM and mechanical testers.
  • Ability to thrive in a laboratory environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with failure analysis and electronic component functionality is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
