Position Overview

The Forest Carbon Analyst plays a crucial role in delivering resource analysis and valuation support with a focus on the economics and analytics of forest carbon offsets. Collaborating with team members, this position involves conducting timber and carbon investment analyses, managing harvest schedules, and developing both tactical and long-term resource models. The analyst will also evaluate third-party investment models aimed at carbon sequestration and provide analytical support to the Impact Investment and forest management teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct modeling for forest carbon offsets and sequestration.
  • Lead and support the underwriting of carbon-focused timberland acquisitions, implementing strategies such as improved forest management, afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation across various registries.
  • Prepare investment and educational materials for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in forest carbon planning and investment modeling to support existing assets under management.
  • Compile periodic reports detailing timberland property carbon stocks, greenhouse gas profiles, and related materials.
  • Assist in all phases of property acquisition as directed, including investment modeling, due diligence, and closing processes.
  • Review third-party property appraisals and annual Long-Term Plans (LTPs) as well as Comprehensive Property Management Plans (CPMPs).
  • Support accounting and portfolio management teams with relevant information and analysis.
  • Contribute to special projects within Global Forest Operations as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or a related field, with equivalent experience.
  • A graduate degree in a forest or carbon-related discipline or business is highly preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in carbon modeling, forest management planning, timberland investment planning, or forest operations (a graduate degree may substitute for work experience).
  • Strong understanding of forest carbon analytics, market trends, and compliance standards.
  • Proficient in growth and yield models, harvest scheduling, discounted cash flow analysis, and forestry operations.
  • Familiarity with registry protocols for ACR, Verra, CARB, Australia ETS, and New Zealand ETS.
  • General knowledge of forestry practices across various commercial forest investment regions globally.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with strong writing capabilities for professional reports and management plans.
  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial, with effective verbal communication skills.
