Position Overview
This role is for an in-house attorney within Visa's Legal and Ethics & Compliance division, serving as a vital member of the legal team that supports the North America Sales and Client divisions.

In a rapidly evolving and competitive payments landscape, these divisions play a crucial role in advancing Visa's strategic objectives.

As part of this team, you will offer insightful and practical legal counsel to essential teams at Visa, facilitating commercial agreements with our most significant clients.

We seek an organized and self-driven professional capable of collaborating effectively to support Visa's commercial ambitions in a complex, global context.


Key Responsibilities


Primary duties encompass:

  • Drafting and negotiating intricate business agreements, including incentive, branding, and strategic partnership contracts with traditional payment system stakeholders such as issuers, merchants, processors, and emerging participants like fintechs, neobanks, and cryptocurrency wallets.
  • Engaging in extensive business interactions with Visa's external clientele, including financial institutions, processors, merchants, and fintechs.
  • Creating, updating, and managing template agreements to enhance the efficiency of the contract administration process.
  • Providing legal support to Visa's account executives overseeing global client relationships.
  • Collaborating closely with internal subject matter experts and regional legal advisors.

This position operates in a hybrid model, allowing for a blend of remote and office work. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to be in the office 2-3 designated days a week, as determined by leadership, with a general expectation of being present in the office 50% or more of the time based on business requirements.


Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:
5 or more years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 2 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD), or no experience with a PhD.

Preferred Qualifications:
6 or more years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree, or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD.

  • Active member in good standing, eligible to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in the United States.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse team and build effective working relationships with internal clients at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with cross-functional and/or cross-regional teams.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts in business-friendly terms.
  • Experience in drafting, negotiating, or litigating complex commercial agreements.
  • Self-motivated individual who can work independently and collegially within a small legal team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a substantial volume of matters effectively.
  • Developed business acumen, with an understanding of the company's interests and the ability to foresee potential issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred background knowledge in the payment services industry, credit and debit processing, legal and regulatory frameworks, intellectual property law, and antitrust and competition law.
  • Practical problem-solver, calm under pressure, with a positive demeanor and a sense of humor.

Work Hours:
Varies based on departmental needs.

Travel Requirements:
This position may require travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements:
This role will be performed in an office environment, requiring the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and via telephone, and frequently operate standard office equipment, such as computers and telephones.

The estimated salary range for this position is between 165,400.00 and 215,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments. Salary may vary based on job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This position may also be eligible for bonus and equity opportunities.
