POSITION SUMMARY:
The role involves leading group fitness sessions in a secure, enjoyable, and supportive atmosphere that fosters member wellness and participation, in line with YMCA standards and protocols. The instructor will provide a diverse range of exercise formats to improve fitness levels through the teaching of cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and mind-body disciplines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
To conduct engaging, enjoyable, safe, and informative group classes (Cycle, HIIT, Barre, Kickboxing, Zumba, Senior) that align with the YMCA's mission and objectives.
To address inquiries from members to assist them in reaching their health and wellness aspirations. To maintain a comprehensive understanding of health and wellness to offer effective guidance and support to members.
To cultivate genuine, impactful relationships with members; facilitate connections among members and the YMCA community.
To accurately track class attendance, if necessary.
To adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, be familiar with emergency protocols, respond appropriately to emergencies, and complete incident reports as needed.
To enforce all Facility Rules to guarantee the safety of all members/participants, promptly halting any actions deemed unsafe, and consistently acting in a mature and professional manner.
To maintain a neat and professional appearance, ensuring attire is appropriate and does not expose the midriff.
To utilize professional music free of explicit language and inappropriate content.
To be knowledgeable about facility schedules and familiarize oneself with all YMCA programs.
To adapt workouts to cater to various fitness levels.
To instruct participants on proper techniques, anatomy, contraindications, and modifications of exercises.
To arrive punctually, prepared to commence and conclude classes on time. Timeliness means being changed, organized, signed in, and ready to welcome new members. Repeated tardiness may lead to immediate action.
To be accountable for arranging coverage for classes when unable to teach.
Utilize Group Ex Pro for class attendance communication.
Ensure that programs, staff, and patrons uphold hygiene practices in accordance with CDC guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS/ CERTIFICATIONS:
First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required within six months of employment.
Certification in specific areas of expertise (Yoga, Spinning, Diabetes Prevention, etc.) is necessary.
Must possess knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and strength and conditioning program management and execution.
Maintain active certification status annually.
Availability for both daytime and evening classes is required.
Completion of YMCA Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Training within three months of employment.
Participation in YMCA of Long Island New Employee Orientation within three months of employment.
YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification or a national certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, or equivalent) in group exercise instruction is required. If not certified at the time of hiring, certification must be obtained within three months.
Completion of YMCA Listen First training within three months of employment.
