Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team at the Maryland School for the Deaf. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, you will play a critical role in providing speech, language, and aural rehabilitation services to our students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer language, speech, AAC, and auditory skill diagnostic evaluations to assess student needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Conduct speech, language, speech reading, AAC, and auditory skills development to support student communication and academic success.
  • Evaluate treatment progress and revise plans as necessary to ensure optimal student outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on student services and progress.
  • Participate in team and community meetings to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders on student support and services.
  • Serve as an IEP team member to determine present levels of performance and establish goals specifically addressed to student needs.
  • Use developmentally appropriate activities, various therapy materials, and assistive technology to support student progress and engagement.
  • Consult with other professionals and non-professionals, including parents and classroom staff, to discuss student performance and develop strategies for support.
  • Assist with training of classroom staff on amplification equipment, feeding/swallowing precautions, and augmentative communication use.
  • Conduct and participate in seminars, in-service, and professional training programs to stay current in clinical practice and best practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant laws and regulations related to student care and services.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Maryland.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of speech-language pathology, with a focus on working with deaf and hard of hearing populations.
  • Proficiency with a variety of computer programs and applications, including Google, MS Word, Boardmaker, and the Maryland Online IEP program.
  • Basic level sign language skills, with a willingness to improve ASL skills to achieve fluency.
  • Additional desirable knowledge: Phonological Awareness, ABA experience, AAC experience, and Feeding/Swallowing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Willingness to learn American Sign Language.
  • Possession and maintenance of certification through the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
  • Initiative to remain current in clinical practice through lectures, literature, and other educational opportunities.
