Position Overview:


The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical nutrition services, including nutritional evaluations, tailored diet plans, nutrition education, and management of nutritional care for patients across various settings.

This role involves providing therapeutic diet instruction and counseling, conducting patient visits, and overseeing nutritional support services.

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist ensures high levels of patient satisfaction, adherence to quality care standards, compliance with regulatory requirements, and fosters positive public relations through the effective use of resources.

The individual must be prepared to accept limited responsibility and authority while demonstrating the ability to work effectively under pressure and respond positively to constructive feedback.

Demonstrating courtesy and professionalism towards patients, visitors, medical personnel, and other staff members is essential.

They must exhibit sound clinical judgment and apply their professional expertise to a diverse patient demographic.

All responsibilities must align with the policies and procedures of Singing River Hospital, as well as relevant accreditation and regulatory guidelines.


Education:


A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, with coursework recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.


License:

Required:

Current registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligibility to sit for the registration examination (must pass within six months of employment); licensed as a Dietitian in the State of Mississippi; credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Continuing education requirements must be fulfilled to maintain all necessary registrations and certifications.


Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Registered Dietitian in a healthcare environment.

Assigned staff

Physical Demands:

Work is moderately active:

It involves sitting with frequent movement around the facility and occasional travel to other locations within the service area.

Tasks may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects, including patients, weighing up to 50 pounds.

Employees are expected to use safe lifting techniques and seek assistance when necessary, regardless of the weight involved.

Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue is essential.

Flexibility in work schedules is required to accommodate the hospital's operational needs.


Mental Demands:
Must demonstrate strong cognitive abilities, including assessment and decision-making skills. Excellent communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with patients and colleagues, both in person and via telephone.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with emotional resilience to manage high-stress situations.

Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks in complex scenarios are critical.

Maintaining collaborative and respectful relationships across departments and organizations is a must.

Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are also required.


Special Demands:
Must exhibit strong critical thinking capabilities and exceptional customer service skills.

Expertise in planning, organizing, and integrating complex interdepartmental programs is necessary, along with the ability to work independently and establish rapport with healthcare professionals.

Proficiency in computer use, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.

Knowledge of nutritional principles and the relationship between nutrition and health conditions is essential.

Willingness to travel within the service area is expected, with personal transportation provided by the employee.

Ability to adapt to workload demands, prioritize tasks, and set achievable goals is crucial.

Understanding of automated data processing fundamentals and the capacity to comprehend complex information in a timely manner is necessary.
