Position Overview:

The Occupational Health and Safety Supervisor will report directly to the Plant Manager and will be accountable for the formulation, definition, and technical guidance in the establishment of a proactive Health and Safety strategy that aligns with Pactiv Evergreen's corporate policies, vision, and values while adhering to local, state, and federal Health & Safety regulations. This role encompasses oversight of the Pine Bluff Mill and two off-site Chip Mills. Beyond Safety & Health, the position also manages Mill Security, the Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Fire Suppression systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation and execution of Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Supervise the safety aspects of all regulatory audits, both internal and external.
  • Implement the PTVE Health and Safety Management Technical Standards.
  • Maintain current OSHA-required written programs and develop/conduct training as needed.
  • Oversee the reporting and investigation of any potential injuries, accidents, or health and safety-related concerns.
  • Provide strategic leadership by proactively identifying areas for improvement, developing solutions, and implementing changes.
  • Foster a culture of Zero Harm.
  • Conduct necessary health and safety training to support and enhance the organization's safety culture.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs to support best practices and identify exemplary practices within the PTVE system.
  • Facilitate communication and training for plant management, ensuring effective reporting, assessments, training programs, and guidance.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Health & Safety departments, providing prioritized direction and technical expertise to engineering teams or contractors in executing Health & Safety projects.
  • Maintain a relentless focus on injury prevention, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Align the local team and influence others to achieve the desired Health & Safety performance objectives set by corporate and local initiatives.
  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for enhancing Health & Safety performance.
  • Bring expertise in innovative Health & Safety compliance and risk reduction techniques through employee engagement, behavior-based safety programs, risk assessments, and the implementation and management of Health & Safety programs in a manufacturing context.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field, or 3+ years of experience in a relevant area.
  • Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or the ability to obtain certification within six months.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of progressive and relevant professional experience in health and safety within a manufacturing or industrial setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and influence at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple responsibilities and internal clients.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities, with the ability to organize and oversee multiple projects from inception to completion.
  • Well-developed leadership and motivational skills, with a proven ability to inspire and drive results.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule during critical business periods.
  • Willingness to travel (5%).
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively within high-performance teams.
