Position Overview:
The Marketing Communications Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering marketing assistance for outreach and service line communication initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses project management to facilitate the execution of marketing strategies that reinforce the brand identity of VCU Health.


The Marketing Communications Specialist collaborates with Service Line Directors and other leadership to ensure that system and business unit objectives align with the development and execution of communication plans targeting both patient and employee audiences.


This position is responsible for managing the execution of these plans, which include direct mail campaigns, production of marketing materials, advertising efforts, and event coordination, involving vendor and advertising agency collaboration.


Additionally, the Marketing Communications Specialist develops and oversees outreach initiatives such as community educational seminars, speakers' bureaus, trade show participation, and event support.


Qualifications:
Required:
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in public relations or community outreach, including:
- Development and execution of communication strategies;
- Coordination of direct mail, marketing material production, and advertising;
- Vendor and advertising agency management;
- Community event coordination.


Preferred:
- At least five (5) years of experience in a similar role, with:
- Supervisory or management experience;
- Experience in a healthcare setting.


Education:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, or a closely related discipline from an accredited program.


Additional Information:
This role requires independent actions to oversee and develop various aspects of events, ensuring thorough research and coordination of each element in a creative, efficient, and timely manner. Collaboration with internal and external design and production teams is essential for generating innovative ideas and design options.


The Marketing Communications Specialist will also work professionally and effectively with other departments and community organizations to manage event details, ensuring high-quality outcomes.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position may involve supervising the PR Communications Outreach Coordinator, vendors, and student workers.


Work Environment:
Flexibility for after-hours project work may be necessary, including evenings and weekends, along with occasional participation in events.


Physical Requirements:
Physical lifting of less than 20 lbs is required, along with prolonged sitting and repetitive motions.


Mental and Emotional Demands:
Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are essential. Frequent and intense interactions with customers are expected.
