Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Roadway Safety Supervisor to join our team at Okaloosa County, FL. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and directing the maintenance, restoration, and construction of roadway signage, lane striping, litter control, and related public infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage staff to include assignment, scheduling, interviewing/hiring, training, and development.
  • Perform skilled work in the layout, fabrication, application, and maintenance of traffic control lines/markings, traffic signs, barriers, guardrails, and raised and recessed pavement markers.
  • Fabricate, install, maintain, and repair all types of signs, steel and wooden traffic barricades, and guardrails.
  • Operate county vehicles.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, construction, and maintenance activities for bridges, ditches, sea walls, dune walks, boat docks, culverts, and similar sites.
  • Coordinate and dispatch work orders.
  • Ensure availability of equipment, coordinate materials, and allocate manpower.
  • Inspect work performed and ensure equipment is properly maintained and used.
  • Perform report and record maintenance duties.
  • Consult with management staff.
  • Respond to public concerns and inquiries.
  • Assist with budget preparations.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible experience in road or bridge construction, two (2) years of which shall be acquired in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of layout of roadways for striping and ability to read/interpret plans and DOT specifications.
  • Experience with data entry and report analysis for work orders.
  • Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office experience.
  • Successful completion of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) training within one (1) year of hire.
  • Valid Class "B" commercial driver license (or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire) with "N" endorsement for tanker.
  • International Municipal Sign Association (IMSA) Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level 1 certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification within one (1) year of hire.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to operate a variety of hand-held and electrical equipment and tools, and light to medium-duty construction equipment.

Requires the ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 20 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Must be able to traverse irregular, uneven, and/or erratically moving surfaces frequently and remain on feet for extended periods of time.

Requires the ability to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions.

Language Ability

Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record, and exchange information.

Must be able to read a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy, and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals.

Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction, and punctuation.

Requires the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages used within the parameters of the job.
