GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming environments for both county personnel and the public to conduct business or enjoy recreational activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operates various electrical cleaning devices (e.g., vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, high-speed buffers).

• Utilizes cleaning agents and chemicals in a safe and effective manner, adhering to guidelines to ensure safety for all.

• Secures facilities in accordance with established schedules, including locking doors and windows and powering down electrical devices.

• Conducts a variety of cleaning tasks (e.g., emptying waste bins, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; washing windows; dusting surfaces; cleaning vents, fans, and walls; sanitizing restrooms and kitchen areas).

• Responds promptly to urgent situations (e.g., spills, broken windows, and malfunctioning locks).

• Moves furniture and equipment as required.

• Employs light electrical tools and hand implements, such as rakes, shovels, and hammers.

• Cleans and maintains tools and equipment post-use, ensuring cleanliness and organization in storage areas; performs routine upkeep on custodial equipment, such as changing vacuum belts and bags, and replacing buffer pads; reports any equipment issues or maintenance needs to the supervisor.

• Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; places orders as necessary.

• Engages in general facility maintenance tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, refilling paper and soap dispensers, assisting with setup for meetings and events).

• Aids in the training of custodial staff as needed.

• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred, with at least six months of experience in custodial work, ideally in a commercial setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that equips the individual with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements: Must be capable of operating various hand-held and electrical equipment and tools, including vacuum cleaners and waxers. Must be able to exert force of 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, or more than 50 pounds frequently, or over 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Tasks involve considerable bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined spaces. Requires full body motion for effective limb and torso manipulation. Must be able to work from ladders and lifts for extended periods to complete specific tasks. Requires prolonged standing and walking. Physical demands exceed those typical of sedentary work.

Language Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record, and exchange information; must be able to explain procedures and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to read and comprehend Standard English in various formats related to the job.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense principles to carry out detailed instructions; to address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations; to perform manual labor and operate machinery; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge relevant to the primary occupation.

Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to perform basic arithmetic operations.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with the public, co-workers, and supervisors.
