Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the purchasing department, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping.
  • Engage in the RFP process to recommend or approve major vendor selections, evaluating vendor capabilities and performance through established metrics.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with vendors, manufacturers, and agents.
  • Negotiate terms for significant vendor contracts and orders.
  • Assess and approve major material purchases based on market trends and availability, balancing cash flow with potential savings.
  • Review and authorize purchasing documents and agreements.
  • Oversee inventory management and ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Participate in product line consolidation initiatives.
  • Analyze branch product lines to secure competitive pricing.
  • Establish policies to maintain minimum inventory levels while preventing shortages.
  • Achieve inventory goals and ratios.
  • Foster strong relationships with branch managers to support strategic planning and common objectives.
  • Evaluate logistics for product handling and delivery, recommending cost-effective methods.
  • Provide management with summary reports and actionable recommendations.
  • Represent the purchasing team in internal meetings, executing decisions and action items.
  • Travel to attend purchasing meetings and fulfill reporting requirements.
  • Participate in industry-related events as required.
  • Lead initiatives for technological improvements to enhance departmental productivity.
  • Commit to continuous learning to enhance purchasing, negotiation, and communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical products and the distribution industry.
  • A minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with Eclipse software is preferred.

Specific Qualifications:

  • A four-year college degree is preferred, with at least a two-year associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years in industry-related roles, demonstrating proven negotiation and contract writing skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with advanced management experience.
