General Information:

The School of Theatre and Dance is in search of a Costume Production Supervisor. This full-time role will oversee the execution of departmental productions while managing the upkeep and operation of the costume workshop and its associated areas (e.g., dressing rooms) and equipment.

The School serves a diverse group of 260 majors and offers degrees in Dance, Theatre, and Musical Theatre. It prioritizes collaboration and artistic excellence within a student-centered learning environment. Located in a premier performing arts center, the School promotes a cooperative atmosphere aimed at providing hands-on training within a liberal arts framework.

Key Responsibilities:


• Supervise daily operations of the costume workshop to foster a positive work environment conducive to enriching educational experiences for students.

• Develop and oversee budgets and initiatives for the costume workshop.

• Engage in costume creation and/or procurement for all departmental productions.

• Organize and maintain the costume storage area, including inventory, equipment, and materials for costume construction.

• Collaborate with staff in scheduling the use of costume facilities and equipment.

• Work alongside production costume designers to help realize their artistic vision.

• Mentor students and provide support to guest artists.

• Attend university, production, committee, and departmental meetings as necessary.

• Flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends, is expected. A standard workweek is 40 hours. No work is permitted during institutional closures.

• Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:


• Proven experience in patterning and construction skills for creating and maintaining costumes.

• Previous experience as a costume workshop manager or assistant manager.

• Strong communication and personnel management abilities.

Additional Considerations:


• Experience in costume, make-up, wig/hair, and/or crafts design.

• Background in educational environments.
