Converting Operations Supervisor

This position is a hands-on role with a variety of duties and responsibilities. While office tasks are essential, a significant portion of daily activities will involve physical labor.
It is crucial to ensure that all converting staff are adequately trained in safety and quality standards for all necessary job functions and to confirm that all activities within the converting department comply with regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operation of all bag machinery to ensure that machine adjustments and operations meet facility standards, focusing on optimal speeds and superior quality.
- Conduct training, implement, document, and continuously verify all safety, food safety, and quality protocols.
- Execute root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive measures for any non-conforming raw materials, work in progress, and finished products.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager to maximize throughput efficiency in the converting department and establish an appropriate staffing schedule to meet production needs.
- Actively engage in the CAPA (Corrective and Preventative Action) Program alongside the Quality Assurance Manager/Department.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for all existing converting processes.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Production Manager.
Qualifications:
Essential Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of pouch manufacturing and lamination processes.
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing principles, production methods, and quality control practices, including experience with Servo Driven wicketed and non-wicketed bag machines.
- Proficiency in using computer applications, including word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, databases, and CAD software.
- Ability to administer training effectively to achieve organizational objectives in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with individuals and groups.
- Competence in performing mathematical calculations relevant to converting operations.
- Capability to prioritize tasks amidst changing time constraints and deadlines.
- Sound judgment and the ability to make accurate and timely decisions.
- Familiarity with procedural auditing to ensure adherence to current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Experience:
A minimum of five years of experience in flexible packaging converting departments, including personnel management and hands-on machine setup/modifications as required.
Work Environment:
The characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this role. In a typical 8-hour shift, the employee may need to perform the following functions occasionally, frequently, and/or continuously: sit, stand, walk, bend, crawl, climb, kneel, push, pull, operate machinery, and endure variations in temperature and humidity. The role requires the ability to use hands and arms for repetitive motions, perform simple and firm grasping, and lift/carry weights ranging from 10 lbs. to over 75 lbs. Good hearing, vision, and color perception are essential, along with effective reading, writing, and communication skills.
