Literacy Support Specialist

Southeastern Co-Operative Educational Programs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Reading Specialist to provide leadership and support to staff and teachers in the implementation of evidence-based reading instructional practices. The successful candidate will contribute to the professional growth of staff, design and implement effective literacy plans, and provide instructional support to enhance student literacy development.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with administration and staff to support the implementation of literacy programs and procedures in the classroom.
- Plan, organize, and execute workshops, in-services, demonstrations, and trainings to support the professional growth of teachers and support staff.
- Design, implement, and monitor a comprehensive reading plan that meets the needs of the student population.
- Orient new teachers to the philosophy, procedures, and materials needed to teach reading successfully.
- Meet with administration to discuss the effectiveness of ongoing programs and make recommendations for change.
- Observe literacy instruction in the classroom and make recommendations based on those observations.
- Work with classroom teachers and support staff on matters relating to reading instruction.
- Recommend appropriate materials to aid reading instruction.
- Assist teachers with differentiation according to student needs.
- Assess and analyze students' reading ability and make recommendations based on results/data.
- Remain knowledgeable of evidence-based literacy practices, programs, materials, and software available for use in the classroom.
- Expand own professional growth of reading, literacy knowledge, and practice by attending workshops, in-services, conferences, and/or staying current with professional literature.
- Work within a team environment to build relationships with colleagues, external service agencies, representatives of other school divisions, and all other stakeholders, as necessary.
- Master's Degree in Education or related field.
- Possess or be eligible for a Virginia License as a Reading Specialist.
- A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience in the collection, analysis, and presentation of data to support instruction and programming.
