Overview

Under the guidance of management, this role is responsible for overseeing the execution of the systems administration and the upkeep of the organization's technological infrastructure, which includes the analysis, development, modification, installation, backup, testing, and maintenance of operating systems software and storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of professionals in delivering IT consulting services across various departments.
  • Collaborates with the Network Operations Manager to ensure adherence to corporate IT protocols.
  • Facilitates the operations of a virtualized computing environment.
  • Provides direct IT consulting support to organizational management.
  • Coordinates the training and professional development of junior IT personnel.
  • Assesses vendor-supplied software solutions and offers recommendations to IT leadership.
  • Modifies and troubleshoots third-party equipment, utilities, and software packages.
  • Installs and prepares technical documentation for system software applications.
  • Configures and documents storage management software and hardware.
  • Diagnoses and resolves software and hardware issues to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Plans and implements disaster recovery strategies.
  • Assigns, oversees, and evaluates team performance, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitors project milestones and deliverables to ensure timely completion.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Prepares budget forecasts, contracts, and purchase requisitions.
  • Engages in the research and evaluation of emerging products and services.
  • Provides training and mentorship to subordinate staff.
  • Offers support during after-hours and weekends as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

The position is conducted in a standard office setting utilizing typical office equipment, including computers.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of software and hardware operating characteristics, limitations, and capabilities.
  • Ability to lead and manage technical and administrative teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess IT challenges, propose solutions, and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in information technology, computer science, or a related field, along with a minimum of six years of experience in operating systems setup and maintenance.

Substitution Policy

Graduate-level studies in relevant fields may substitute for experience, up to two years. Full-time experience in operating systems management may also substitute for educational requirements.

Promotional Requirements

  • At least one year of experience within the organization as a Systems Administrator, Computer Systems Administrator, or Senior Systems Programmer.
  • Civil service status in one of the aforementioned roles.
