SENIOR SPECIALIST IN CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS

WHAT IS THE ROLE?

The Senior Specialist in Corporate Communications is instrumental in ensuring that City National's 6,000 employees are well-informed about the essential information they need to excel in their roles. This includes updates on competitive benefits, compensation structures, and career advancement opportunities that are designed to support their professional growth. Additionally, this role is pivotal in fostering engagement among employees, encouraging them to be active contributors to the bank's objectives in serving clients and communities.

In this capacity, the Senior Specialist will enhance communication channels among City National employees, management, the Human Resources department, and executive leadership. This involves translating critical HR initiatives into clear and actionable messaging that promotes awareness, engagement, and proactive participation.

As a member of the Corporate Communications team, reporting to the HR Communications Lead, the Senior Specialist acts as a trusted communications partner and advisor to the Human Resources team. By remaining attuned to City National's internal reputation and strategic goals, this role will implement a comprehensive HR communications strategy that empowers employees to deliver exceptional client service, advance their careers, and thrive alongside the bank.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with key HR stakeholders to identify and evaluate their communication needs, providing strategic counsel and translating those needs into actionable communication plans and deliverables that achieve desired outcomes.
  • Maintain an HR Communications calendar and develop inclusive communications across various platforms, including emails, newsletters, intranet updates, presentations, and large-scale events.
  • Lead and manage multiple communication projects from inception to completion, which may involve project management and administrative responsibilities.
  • Ensure that all communication strategies and outputs align with Corporate Communications best practices and reflect the bank's culture, brand, vision, and values.
  • Assess and track the effectiveness of communication initiatives for internal reporting on metrics and to identify areas for ongoing improvement.
  • Engage in additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in writing, editing, and proofreading, with a strong background in Journalism and AP Style
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in corporate communications

Skills and Expertise

  • Preferred degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related communications field
  • Background in finance or banking is advantageous
  • Strong editing skills, familiarity with AP Style, and a background in business communications are beneficial
  • Exceptional writing and copyediting abilities are required
  • High attention to detail is essential
  • Interpersonal skills that foster effective relationships with peers and senior leaders are necessary
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within teams.
Compensation Starting base salary: $92,114 - $156,880 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
