The Senior Communications Specialist will be instrumental in developing and implementing the organization’s communication strategy, aimed at effectively engaging stakeholders, enhancing the reputation of JFSLA, and furthering our mission of delivering essential services to the Los Angeles community. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, the Specialist will demonstrate exceptional public relations management skills, outstanding writing abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a passion for storytelling and community involvement. The ideal candidate will be innovative, organized, and self-driven, with a strong interest in conveying strategic messages to key internal and external audiences.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Public Relations, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in non-profit marketing, communications, public relations, or a similar area.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to create timely and impactful content for various publications and deliverables.
  • Successful track record in executing public relations campaigns and managing media relations. Proven ability to handle media inquiries and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure cohesive and accurate brand representation.
  • Experience with website management using CMS platforms such as WordPress.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media, email marketing, and analytics tools.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter; adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong computer and technology skills.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with a positive and collaborative attitude.
  • Familiarity with design software such as InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop is a plus.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check prior to employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Public Relations Management: Assist in the development and execution of public relations strategies to enhance the visibility and reputation of JFSLA within the community. Foster relationships with media outlets, pitch stories, and coordinate press releases.
  • Oversight of Communication Materials: Ensure consistency and quality across all communication materials, including print, digital content, and multimedia productions.
  • Internal Communications: Develop internal communication products to keep staff informed and engaged, facilitating effective communication within the organization.
  • Management of Communication Tools and Partnerships: Oversee the use of communication platforms and tools, coordinating with external partners such as graphic designers and database managers to ensure deliverables meet organizational standards.
  • Event Coordination: Support the Senior Communications Director and team in planning and executing community engagement events, both virtual and in-person.
  • Content Development: Write, edit, and curate engaging content for various communication channels, including newsletters, websites, social media, and press materials.
  • Website Management: Maintain and update websites to ensure content accuracy and relevance, implementing SEO strategies to enhance visibility and traffic.
  • Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators for communication efforts, providing regular reports and insights to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Provide backup support to team members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
