Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Radio-TV, Film (RTVF), Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field, along with two (2) years of relevant experience in a similar role. Experience may be considered in lieu of education for up to four (4) years.

Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver License.

Notes to Applicants:
The Senior Video Production Coordinator is tasked with capturing and editing video and audio for training and public information initiatives within the Austin Fire Department (AFD).

Driving Requirement:
This role necessitates a valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to obtain one by the hire date. New hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) criteria. To qualify for a driving position, applicants must not have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a thirty-six (36) month period.

Key Responsibilities:
Essential duties may include:
  • Consulting with clients to ascertain program requirements, identify production options, assist with script development, and define overall content.
  • Conceptualizing, designing, and coordinating the production of video and audio materials for training, public information, and promotional purposes.
  • Assessing equipment needs and making recommendations for purchases.
  • Setting up, transporting, and operating cameras, lighting, and audio equipment, while monitoring and adjusting settings during recording sessions.
  • Shooting and editing video, selecting music, designing digital effects, and creating graphics to produce a polished final product.
  • Writing and editing scripts for video and audio projects, either independently or collaboratively.
  • Duplicating and distributing video and audio materials across various media formats to department personnel, the public, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinating complex projects that may involve multiple departments.
  • Maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting production equipment.
  • Providing training to staff on best practices in video production.

Leadership Responsibilities:
This position involves providing leadership, assigning work, evaluating performance, and offering guidance to others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates must possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job, including:
  • Understanding of media production and communication techniques.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial principles.
  • Proficiency in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.
  • Experience with Electronic News-Gathering (ENG) cameras and related software.
  • Ability to analyze data and solve problems.
  • Capacity to train others and adapt to changing priorities.
