MoboTrex is on the lookout for a dedicated Electrical Design Engineer who will be instrumental in generating all necessary design documentation required for the procurement, construction, and installation of the products offered by the company. This role involves transforming client specifications and industry expertise into detailed drawings, bills of materials, and operational instructions for both purchasing and manufacturing processes.

The Electrical Design Engineer will provide comprehensive drawings and documentation to assist MoboTrex Field Technicians or Contractors in the successful installation and commissioning of the designed systems. Regular collaboration with key suppliers will be essential to gain insights into their products, applications, integration, implementation, installation, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct programming, testing, and troubleshooting of traffic signal control systems both in the workshop and in the field.
  2. Interpret and apply various regulations such as MUTCD, NEMA, and UL, ensuring compliance in the company’s products and processes.
  3. Create electrical wiring diagrams based on specified plans, standard templates, or previous projects for new and existing traffic, lighting, and related control cabinets.
  4. Develop mechanical drawings for panels, cables, cabinets, and layouts, or provide necessary information to mechanical designers for completion.
  5. Ensure all drawings adhere to industry standards and MoboTrex practices.
  6. Compile and verify bills of materials (BoM) for assemblies and components.
  7. Prepare cost estimates based on customer requirements or sales requests.
  8. Draft assembly or installation instructions for various projects.
  9. Formulate test procedures to validate component or system functionality, especially for new or untested designs.
  10. Provide technical support via telephone as required.
  11. Utilize CAD systems for all drawings and manage the archiving process, suggesting improvements for document format and retrieval.
  12. Analyze technology trends and recommend enhancements or modifications to our products or services.
  13. Monitor design system technologies and suggest changes when necessary.
  14. Benchmark against other industries and implement best practices.
  15. Document the design process from customer specifications to design release.
  16. Record customer-specific preferences in an accessible and editable format.
  17. Maintain key performance metrics such as lead time, on-time delivery, and quality reporting.
  18. Develop action plans to address issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  19. Participate in MoboTrex User Group events, presenting solutions to customers to clarify proposals or explore new alternatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to translate traffic system requirements into standardized electrical designs.
  • Familiarity with traffic products, controllers, software, and designs is preferred.
  • Experience with MUTCD specifications is essential.
  • Knowledge of NEMA Traffic standards, with ATC and Caltrans experience being a plus.
  • Field service experience in traffic systems is preferred.
  • Experience in system integration is advantageous, particularly in combining multiple products from various suppliers into a cohesive operating system.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
  • Competence in using electrical and electronic testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Local candidates are preferred; relocation and visa sponsorship are not available.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This position requires the employee to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. Regular standing and walking are required, with occasional bending, stooping, or reaching above shoulder height. The employee may need to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role is primarily office-based, with periodic visits to the production area and occasional travel as needed.
