Position Summary
The Electrical Design Engineer plays a crucial role in the development of design documentation necessary for the procurement, construction, and installation of our products. This position requires the ability to interpret customer requirements and industry standards, transforming them into detailed drawings, bills of materials, and comprehensive work instructions for manufacturing and installation teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct programming, testing, and troubleshooting of traffic signal control systems both in-house and on-site.
- Interpret and apply various codes such as MUTCD, NEMA, and UL to ensure compliance in product design and processes.
- Create electrical wiring diagrams based on project specifications, utilizing standard templates or previous projects for both new and existing traffic control systems.
- Develop mechanical drawings for panels, cables, and cabinet layouts, collaborating with mechanical designers as needed.
- Ensure all design documentation adheres to industry standards and MoboTrex practices.
- Compile and verify bills of materials (BoM) for assemblies and components.
- Prepare cost estimates based on customer specifications or sales inquiries.
- Draft assembly and installation instructions for various projects.
- Establish testing procedures to validate the functionality of new or untested designs.
- Provide technical support via telephone as required.
- Utilize CAD software for all design work and maintain organized documentation processes.
- Analyze emerging technology trends and recommend enhancements to our product offerings.
- Monitor advancements in design systems and suggest improvements as necessary.
- Benchmark practices from other industries to implement best practices within our operations.
- Document the design process from initial customer specifications to final design release.
- Maintain records of customer-specific preferences in an accessible format for team collaboration.
- Track key performance metrics, including lead times, on-time delivery, and quality reporting.
- Develop action plans to address challenges and promote continuous improvement initiatives.
- Engage in MoboTrex User Group events to present solutions and clarify proposals for customers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in translating traffic system requirements into standardized electrical designs.
- Familiarity with traffic products, controllers, and software is preferred.
- Experience with MUTCD specifications is essential.
- Knowledge of NEMA Traffic standards, particularly ATC and Caltrans, is advantageous.
- Field service experience in traffic systems is preferred.
- Experience in system integration, particularly with multiple products from various suppliers, is a plus.
- Extensive use of AutoCAD is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
- Competence in using electrical and electronic testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Local candidates are preferred; relocation assistance is not available.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position primarily involves office work, with occasional visits to production areas. Employees may need to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, and color vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
