Job Overview

Position Title: Credit Manager

Reports To: CFO

Department: Credit

Location: Riverview

Primary Responsibilities:

Dobbs Equipment is seeking a Credit Manager to oversee the credit risk and receivables for a designated area, with the aim of enhancing profitability and expanding market share. This role will also supervise Retail Finance operations that assist customers in financing their purchases of equipment, parts, services, and rentals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: To excel in this role, the individual must effectively carry out the following essential tasks:

  • Lead the Credit team, focusing on the development, coaching, and training of staff to meet departmental objectives related to receivables collection, credit/account establishment, and resolution of account issues.
  • Establish and implement credit policies and procedures aligned with the company's risk tolerance and market conditions, as sanctioned by senior management.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders (VPs, GMs, sales, and operations) through clear and consistent communication.
  • Generate, analyze, and present daily, weekly, and monthly reports on outstanding receivables. Schedule and conduct regular meetings with branch management to discuss overdue customer accounts.
  • Handle collections for challenging and complex accounts, utilizing legal instruments such as Notice to Owner and Release of Lien, as well as preparing collection letters as necessary.
  • Maintain low delinquency levels on assigned accounts by employing effective collection strategies and negotiating payment plans with delinquent customers.
  • Set and adjust credit limits as necessary, reviewing and approving credit terms and customer payment plans.
  • Oversee the activities of collection agencies and legal representatives, collaborating on actions such as demand letters and lawsuits.
  • Conduct ongoing credit assessments of new and existing clients using financial statement analysis and credit reports.
  • Utilize tools to secure transactions with liens and file UCCs as required, while providing guidance to Branch Administrators on lien-related issues.
  • Evaluate litigated and defaulted accounts based on risk exposure, making recommendations for engagement and resolution to corporate management.
  • Utilize the Collection Management System (CMS) to ensure accurate documentation of account activities.
  • Assist in reconciling accounts and resolving cash application discrepancies.
  • Manage customer PowerPlan and internal credit lines as necessary, ensuring required documentation is obtained.
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding account status and provide necessary documentation to resolve outstanding issues.

Qualifications: The following qualifications are essential for this position:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Experience in management
  • Background in Credit and Collections

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting, or a minimum of three years in Credit and Collections.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing tasks independently.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to follow instructions and apply common sense in various situations.
  • Basic mathematical skills for calculations involving whole numbers and decimals.
  • Quick learner with innovative thinking capabilities.
  • Positive attitude and strong organizational skills.
  • Understanding of credit and collections processes, with strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment while ensuring thorough follow-up.
  • Capability to maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with credit reporting agencies and financial statements.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws governing collection activities.
  • Understanding of bankruptcy laws and the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC).

Work Environment:

The characteristics of the work environment are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may occasionally be exposed to humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands required to perform this job successfully include regular standing, using hands for handling tasks, and the ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.
