Records Management Officer I

Position Overview
Under supervision, the Records Management Officer I is responsible for executing a diverse range of specialized and technical support tasks within the Sheriff's Department.
Key Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
- Office protocols and procedures
- Alpha and numeric filing systems; document indexing and sorting
- Basic mathematics, including percentages, fractions, and decimals
- Proper English usage, encompassing grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Fundamental principles and practices of recordkeeping
- Identification methods and property management
- Law enforcement computer systems and communication tools
Ability to:
- Adhere to oral and written instructions and guidelines
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms
- Read, comprehend, interpret, and apply law enforcement codes and regulations
- Maintain a courteous and cooperative demeanor in challenging situations
- Establish and sustain effective working relationships
- Operate office machinery and specialized law enforcement computer systems
- Keep accurate records
Employment Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of full-time paid experience in clerical, general recordkeeping, or accounting roles,
Or
One year of full-time paid experience in a position with public interaction, which involved interpreting or clarifying rules, regulations, policies, or procedures.
General Qualifications:
Driver's License: A valid California driver license, Class C or higher, is required prior to appointment. Failure to maintain a valid license may result in personnel action. Individuals unable to meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Physical Abilities: Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
- Availability to work various shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work in a detention facility with direct contact with inmates.
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials, including bodily fluids.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures for prolonged periods.
- Wear and maintain the designated Sheriff's Department uniform.
Background/Criminal History: The County may review criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this position, in accordance with applicable laws and policies. Candidates with felony or misdemeanor convictions that impact their ability to perform job duties may not be considered for employment.
Probationary Period: The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.
