About the Role

GableGotwals is a leading law firm with a strong presence in Oklahoma and Texas, representing a diverse range of clients across the nation and globally. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Intellectual Property Assistant to join our Intellectual Property department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to attorneys in the Intellectual Property department, including domestic and international patent prosecution and litigation work.
  • Review and report on Office Actions and other communications from the USPTO to attorneys and clients.
  • Prepare formal documents, such as Declarations, Powers of Attorney, and Assignments, and file them with the USPTO using the Electronic Filing System (EFS).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in electronic filing of patent, trademark, and copyright forms, as well as Information Disclosure Statements and attorney-generated work.
  • Work closely with staff responsible for foreign filings and patent and trademark maintenance work.
  • Monitor docket(s) daily and maintain a personal IP soft docket and litigation calendar.
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and organization of files.
  • Communicate effectively with U.S. Patent and Trademark examiners and other USPTO staff members.
  • Prepare client status reports as requested and/or on a quarterly basis for large-entity clients.
  • Perform patent and trademark searches for attorney use.
  • Review pre-bills and disseminate them for review/approval by other staff and attorneys, as needed; finalize, process, and transmit invoices to clients.
  • Contact clients with respect to past due accounts.
Requirements
  • High school diploma plus two years of relevant work experience.
  • Associate degree in legal studies or a related field preferred.
  • Notary preferred.
  • Ability to type accurately at a minimum speed of sixty-five words per minute.

  • Able to work independently or as a team in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong diligence with great emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  • Advance knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficient use of research tools, such as USPTO, WIPO, LexisNexis, etc.
  • Some knowledge of U.S. patent/trademark (USPTO) rules, foreign patent/trademark rules, and U.S. copyright rules preferred, but not required.
  • Operate standard office equipment, such as telephones, conferencing equipment, photocopiers, scanners, postage machines, etc.
  • Use proper judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive, confidential information.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations in a professional and courteous manner.
