The role of a Commercial Underwriter and Business Development Specialist at Travelers is an exciting opportunity for individuals to leverage their underwriting expertise and business acumen to drive growth and profitability.

About the Job

We are seeking a skilled professional to partner with agents and brokers, providing property, general liability, commercial auto, and/or workers' compensation coverage for new and renewal business based on customers' needs.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assessing risk, selling our products, managing the profitability and growth of assigned accounts, and cultivating relationships with internal and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and execute agency sales plans to identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  2. Cultivate and maintain relationships with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  3. Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  4. Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three to five years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges.
  • Communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation preferred.
Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000, depending on location and experience. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement matching, paid time off, and a wellness program.
