Clinical Laboratory Specialist

As a Clinical Laboratory Specialist, you will play a vital role in the healthcare team at the Defense Health Agency. This position involves working in a clinical laboratory environment where you will be responsible for performing a variety of diagnostic tests and analyses.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct technical and administrative procedures necessary for specimen processing and result reporting.
- Utilize advanced automated systems to perform a wide range of laboratory tests.
- Calibrate laboratory instruments and carry out preventive maintenance as required.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and test evaluations in all testing processes.
- Perform hematology and microbiological tests, interpreting cellular and organismal data using microscopic techniques.
- Prepare blood components, including splitting or pooling products as necessary.
- Execute additional duties as assigned to support laboratory operations.
Qualifications
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and meet the educational and experience requirements outlined below:
Experience:
One year of specialized experience in a clinical laboratory setting, performing diverse testing procedures in areas such as specimen processing, hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, immunoassays, Blood Bank, and microbiological testing.
Education:
Completion of one full year of graduate-level education in a relevant field such as medical technology, chemistry, or biology may also qualify.
Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience that meets the total requirements may be acceptable.
Certification:
Certification from a recognized body such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) is mandatory.
