About the Role

The Avison Young San Francisco office seeks a full-time Business Development Specialist who can thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with a senior brokerage team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to learn and grow your skills with a highly reputable, fast-growing, and dynamic international real estate services firm.

You will work closely with a global portfolio of high-calibre real estate assets and have the chance to become part of the brokerage team itself through our junior brokerage program and mentorship from experienced professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Financial Modeling: Produce detailed cash-flow/pro-forma projections and development models, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in your work.
  • Deal Support: Assist with deal structuring, scheduling, and communication with clients and internal stakeholders, maintaining effective relationships throughout the process.
  • Market Research: Gather and evaluate economic, demographic, and real estate market data for input into project-specific deliverables, providing valuable insights to our clients.
  • Proposal Writing: Craft compelling proposals and offering materials for new or existing assignments and pursuits, showcasing your writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Presentation Materials: Assist with the preparation of presentation and pitch materials for new business pursuits, helping to secure key clients and projects.
  • Research Pieces: Prepare research pieces for special events and presentations, demonstrating your ability to analyze complex data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Market Surveys: Conduct market surveys, including sales and lease comparable analysis, to identify trends and opportunities in the real estate market.
  • Brokerage Opportunities: Identify, analyze, and support the pursuit of brokerage opportunities, working closely with the senior brokerage team to drive business growth.
  • Production Pipeline Management: Assist with the daily management and workflow of the production pipeline, ensuring seamless project delivery and efficient use of resources.
  • Marketing and Outreach: Assist in developing Avison Young's profile in the market by identifying marketing opportunities, including conferences, speaking engagements, and networking events.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Maintain current and fluid knowledge of regulations and adapt to changes quickly, ensuring compliance and minimizing risk in our operations.
  • Legal Document Review: Assist in reviewing legal documents such as leases, loans, and engagement letters, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of our work.
  • Ad-hoc Tasks: Perform other various tasks as required by the team, demonstrating your flexibility and willingness to support colleagues in achieving shared goals.
  • Cash Flow Projections: Prepare cash flow projections, projected investment returns (IRR, Total Returns, Cash Returns), and scenario/sensitivity analysis, providing valuable insights to our clients and supporting informed decision-making.
  • Market Data Aggregation: Aggregate real estate market data from multiple sources, including our internal systems, to create customized market reports, analysis, and dashboards for use in investment underwriting, annual strategy, and portfolio management reporting.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree: Preferably in Economics, Business Finance, and/or Real Estate with a strong record of academic achievement and demonstrated quantitative skills.
  • Real Estate Fundamentals: Understanding of real estate fundamentals, economic metrics, and research processes.
  • Financial Concepts: Strong understanding of financial concepts and their application in real-world scenarios.
  • Analysis and Reporting: Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information and translate it into strategic deliverables, ensuring effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Writing Skills: Superior grammar and business writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and reports.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to leverage technology to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
  • Multitasking: Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently and within a team on a wide variety of projects, fostering collaboration and contributing to a positive team dynamic.
  • Time Management: Ability to multi-task, work successfully under pressure, and effectively manage time and workload, ensuring seamless project delivery and minimal disruption to the team.
  • Internet Research: Advanced internet research capabilities, with the ability to efficiently gather and analyze relevant data to support client needs.

  • Recent Experience: Recent work experience in commercial real estate would be considered an asset, demonstrating a solid foundation in industry-specific knowledge and best practices.
  • California License: Current California real estate license or ability to obtain within 12 months, ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards.
