Position: Mobile Outreach Specialist

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Salary Range: $50,000 - $50,000

Program Summary:

This initiative aims to assist vulnerable and unhoused populations by addressing their fundamental needs and offering critical services, connections, and referrals. The program also provides education on safer sex practices, as well as testing for HIV and Hepatitis C, alongside support for substance use issues.

Role Responsibilities:

We are looking for a dependable and committed Mobile Outreach Specialist to manage and operate our mobile health units, including a shower bus and an HIV-testing vehicle. This position involves transporting these units to various sites, ensuring they are clean and operational, and engaging with individuals regarding HIV, Hepatitis C, substance use, and preventive health services.

The Mobile Outreach Specialist will also play a key role in enhancing individual and community health literacy and self-sufficiency through various activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support, and advocacy.

Key Duties:

  • Deliver program services to clients from high-risk groups while adhering to funder and regulatory guidelines, best practices, and organizational policies.
  • Safely operate the mobile health units to designated locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
  • Assist in setting up and managing services offered by the mobile units, including showers and health screenings.
  • Facilitate crowd management during community outreach events.
  • Comply with all safety and health regulations, ensuring vehicles meet legal and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, maintenance, and service reports.
  • Accompany clients to appointments as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality regulations and HIPAA documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and complete required training hours annually.
  • Develop linkages with local health and social service organizations.
  • Follow safety protocols for handling biohazardous materials.
  • Conduct proper disposal of medical waste.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies encountered in the field, including overdose situations.
  • Manage the preparation, packing, and inventory of syringes and related supplies.
  • Distribute high-risk prevention supplies, including condoms and hygiene kits.
  • Assist in stocking mobile outreach vehicles.
  • Engage in community events and outreach activities.
  • Participate in organizational activities and events.
  • Be flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining vehicles, preferably in a social services or outreach context.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours and travel to different locations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of HIV, Hepatitis C, and substance use issues, including service connection.
  • Comfortable working with individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, or mental health challenges.
  • Previous experience in public health, social services, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with preventive health services and care linkage programs.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking is preferred.
