Role Overview

The Lead Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of technical tasks outlined in the project directives. Collaborating closely with three Technical Leads, the Lead Engineer utilizes the most suitable technologies and resources to fulfill and surpass the requirements set forth in the Statement of Work (SOW). The technical team is tasked with the development, delivery, and maintenance of functionalities within the data engineering sector of the organization. Key data engineering responsibilities include:
  • Assessment and analysis of diverse raw data formats
  • Transforming raw data into Enterprise Data Models or into formats suitable for exploration, analysis, and utilization
  • Application of best practices and standards in ETL processes, along with the development of generalized ETL solutions that facilitate data ingestion into downstream systems
  • Enhancement and refinement of existing tools and services
  • Creation of new tools and services as required
  • Deployment and management of tools and services across various ETL environments, including Development, Testing, Staging, and Production, adhering to security protocols as necessary.
The Lead Engineer is also responsible for proposing enhancements aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of new capabilities related to data ingestion and conditioning. This role involves strategizing to improve data quality, automate processes, and enhance the accuracy of metadata collection. In addition to providing technical leadership for the project, the Lead Engineer oversees the Mission Engineering/SecDevOps team.

Essential Qualifications

Required Skills
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in data operations and ETL methodologies within the last 15 years.
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, or a related scientific or technical field. Alternatively, 5 additional years of experience in data flow operations, totaling 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience with cloud services, including but not limited to Amazon Web Services, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Understanding of cost optimization strategies for cloud computing and storage.
  • Experience with enterprise strategies and standardized processes in big data.
  • Familiarity with best practices in data governance, ownership, and architecture.
  • Experience with successful iterations of the complete software development life cycle.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, and SQL.
  • Expertise in distributed computing frameworks, including PySpark.
  • Able to implement solutions and apply critical thinking to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches to complex problems.
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring the technical integrity of multiple projects, focusing on their uniqueness, commonality, and integration.
  • Possession of TS SCI with Polygraph clearance.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with AI/ML strategies in the context of ETL.
  • Demonstrated experience with NiFi or similar enterprise solutions, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various tools and platforms.
  • Experience in strategizing to enhance data quality, automate ETL processes, and ensure accurate metadata collection.
  • Experience with software development in secure environments, adhering to proper security protocols.
  • A Master's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, or a related scientific or technical field.

Compensation Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This range reflects the typical salary for this position based on experience and other relevant factors.
