Job Summary

Westminster Canterbury Richmond seeks a skilled Technical Coordinator for Performing Arts to advance and execute events in the theater and other areas of campus. This role involves maintaining and implementing the use of theatrical lighting, sound, and Audio/Visual equipment, as well as collaborating with other departments using this equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Event Setup and Execution: Perform and oversee the setup, run, and strike of all events held in the theater.
  • Technical Operations: Design, set up, maintain, and operate lighting and sound, and projection systems for programs.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Monitor the condition of equipment, including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment, and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of the theater, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and stage facilities.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Coordinate scheduling and training of contractors and technical volunteers.
  • Equipment Rentals: Coordinate equipment rentals as needed.
  • Performance Contracts: Execute performance contracts in the absence of the Manager of Cultural Arts.
  • Theater Events: Advance theater events.
  • Recording Coordination: Coordinate the scheduling of recording of events.
  • Training and Development: Conduct training, as needed, on the use of equipment.
  • Volunteer Support: Assist with volunteer coordination through clerical work with schedules and recording hours.
  • Marketing Materials: Create a variety of flyers and collateral for various needs.
  • Event Support: Set up and operate equipment used to enhance other live events and weekly movies, such as microphones, projectors, lighting, and sound mixing equipment.
  • Collaboration: Support the overall vision of cultural arts at Westminster Canterbury by working collaboratively with other departments.
Requirements
  • Theatrical Equipment: Experience with theatrical lighting and sound equipment, A/V equipment, and computer systems, including Microsoft Office and PowerPoint.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance, 40+ pounds with manual or mechanical assistance, and stand, walk, lift, bend, climb, stoop, and reach for 50-75% of the workday.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Theater Operations: Basic understanding of theater operations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ETC Ion Lighting Console: Experience working with an ETC Ion lighting console.
  • LED Lighting Instruments: Experience programming LED lighting instruments.
  • Sound Mixing: Sound mixing experience, including mastering EQ and working simultaneously on house mix and stage mixes.
  • Signal Flow: Understanding of signal flow for sound and lighting systems.
  • AMX A/V Projection Systems: Familiarity with AMX A/V projection systems.
  • Genie Lift: Ability to operate a Genie lift with spider attachment.
  • InDesign Software: Basic understanding of the InDesign software.
Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree: Associate's degree, equivalent certification, or combination of education and experience to fulfill the requirements of the position.
  • Directly Related Experience: One year of directly related experience in theater.
  • Customer and Communication Skills: Strong customer and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in technical theater, media arts, or equivalent education.
  • Directly Related Experience: Two or more years of directly related experience.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Professional Experience: Professional experience in a retirement community, long-term care, or assisted living setting.
