Overview

The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney (OCA) serves as a vital component of the Loudoun County Government, tasked with the prosecution of felony, misdemeanor, traffic, and juvenile offenses in collaboration with local and federal law enforcement.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, this role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Assigning cases to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys under supervision.
  • Managing a comprehensive caseload across various court levels.
  • Serving as Duty Officer on a rotating schedule, addressing inquiries from law enforcement, citizens, and defense attorneys.
  • Participating in relevant training sessions.
  • Engaging with community members to foster relationships.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive experience in jury trials.
  • The ability to handle a substantial caseload effectively.
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing.
  • A collaborative and independent work ethic in a setting that prioritizes litigation skills, civility, sound judgment, and integrity.

Compensation will be determined based on experience.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited institution and possess a valid license to practice law in Virginia, along with a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in criminal law as a prosecutor.

All applicants must be in good standing with the Virginia State Bar.

Additional Requirements

The selected individual will be subject to a criminal background check and must maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
