Role Summary

The Department of Community Corrections is actively seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Recovery Court Probation Officer. This role involves overseeing participants assigned to the Recovery Court initiative by the Circuit Court.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and submitting detailed reports to the Court.
  • Providing testimony during Court proceedings.
  • Conducting drug screenings and assessments.
  • Actively participating in Recovery Court Team meetings.
  • Collaborating closely with the Recovery Court Coordinator.
  • Establishing and supervising community service obligations for program participants.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Court-mandated conditions.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive case notes and files.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for performing substance abuse evaluations and making suitable referrals as necessary.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in the criminal justice sector.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system who struggle with substance abuse.
  • A strong background in addiction, mental health, and related services.
  • Proficiency in collecting samples for urinalysis and administering alcohol breath tests.
  • Excellent writing skills for compiling factual reports for Court submission.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for effective interaction with legal professionals, including attorneys and judges.

Additional Requirements

The selected candidate must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and an annual DMV record check.

This position requires the ability to supervise criminal defendants in a Community Corrections environment and conduct occasional residential visits. Candidates must be prepared to work with individuals who may exhibit violent behaviors and may need to enter correctional facilities as required. VCIN certification is mandatory, and the selected individual will be expected to obtain this certification within 90 days of employment.
