Position Overview
The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney (OCA) is a vital constitutional entity within Loudoun County Government. Its primary responsibility is to prosecute a range of criminal cases, including felonies, misdemeanors, traffic violations, and juvenile offenses, in collaboration with local and federal law enforcement.
Role Responsibilities
This role reports directly to the Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney. Key responsibilities include:
- Assigning cases to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys under supervision.
- Managing a comprehensive caseload across various court levels.
- Serving as Duty Officer on a rotational basis, addressing inquiries from law enforcement, citizens, and defense attorneys.
- Participating in relevant training sessions.
- Engaging with community members to foster positive relationships.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Extensive experience in jury trials.
- Strong case management skills.
- Proficiency in legal research and writing.
- The ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a setting that prioritizes effective litigation, civility, sound judgment, and integrity.
Compensation
The starting salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and possess a valid license to practice law in Virginia. A minimum of four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in criminal law as a prosecutor, is required. Candidates must also be in good standing with the Virginia State Bar.
Additional Requirements
The selected candidate will be subject to a criminal background check and must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
