Position Overview

Role Summary

The Department of Community Corrections is actively seeking qualified candidates for the position of Recovery Court Probation Officer. This full-time role involves overseeing participants assigned to the Recovery Court program by the Circuit Court.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and submitting detailed reports to the Court.
  • Providing testimony during Court proceedings.
  • Conducting drug testing and assessments.
  • Participating in Recovery Court Team meetings.
  • Collaborating closely with the Recovery Court Coordinator.
  • Establishing and monitoring community service obligations for participants.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Court-imposed conditions.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic case notes and documentation.
Regular attendance at Recovery Court sessions is essential, along with the ability to perform substance abuse evaluations and make suitable referrals.

Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in the criminal justice sector.

Experience in working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system who struggle with substance abuse is crucial. A solid understanding of addiction, mental health, and related services is also necessary. The role requires the ability to collect samples for urinalysis and administer alcohol breath tests. Strong writing skills are essential for compiling comprehensive reports for the Court. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with legal professionals, including attorneys, law enforcement, judges, and court staff. Collaboration within the Recovery Court Team and the probation team is vital.

Additional Requirements

The selected candidate must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and an annual DMV record check.

Willingness to supervise individuals in a Community Corrections office environment and conduct occasional residential visits is necessary. The candidate should be prepared to work with individuals who may exhibit violent behaviors and may need to enter correctional facilities as required. VCIN certification is mandatory, and the selected individual will be expected to obtain this certification within 90 days of employment.
