Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Active Playful Learning Coach to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our education team, you will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the Active Playful Learning framework in elementary schools across the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide coaching and support to elementary school teachers in the implementation of the Active Playful Learning framework.
  • Develop and deliver professional development training to teachers and coaches on the Active Playful Learning approach.
  • Collaborate with the national Active Playful Learning team to bring evidence-based practices to coaching activities.
  • Conduct bi-weekly practice-based coaching sessions with teachers, including creation of effective coaching agreements and schedules, co-designing goals and action plans, and providing feedback and resources.
  • Document coaching activities, including coaching logs, surveys, observations, and other data collection duties.
  • Facilitate reflection and provide feedback to teachers, assisting them with resources, materials, tools, and identification of best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong positive relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
  • Work effectively with adult learners, including providing encouragement and emotional support, skillfully offering constructive feedback, and demonstrating flexibility, openness, and willingness to implement new ideas.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or a demonstrated mastery in a specialty area, normally signified by significant equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of experience in education, preferably in elementary education.
  • Strong preference for candidates who can commit to this position for the full 3- to 4-year term.
  • Currently certified to teach Kindergarten and/or Grade 1-3 in the state of Virginia.
  • Experience with teaching elementary mathematics and/or with elementary mathematics curriculum.
  • Experience in instructional coaching or a related role, preferably in a school setting.
Physical Demands

This is a primarily sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires walking some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Compensation

The position offers a competitive salary range of $38.46 hourly, commensurate with education and experience.
