Job Summary

The Financial Reporting Accountant is a key member of the accounting team at Poppy Bank, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the accounting department. This role involves performing a variety of accounting duties, including computing, classifying, recording, and verifying numerical data for use in maintaining related accounting records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly Loan board reports and assist in the ACL calculation, as well as prepare monthly ALCO and Board Reports.
  • Accounting and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
  • Insurance and Lease Management: Assist and maintain the Bank's insurance policies and manage the Bank's lease agreements, including related accounting entries and reconciliations.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Assist in the preparation of the quarterly Call Report, including other regulatory reports such as the Y-9C, Y-9LP, Summary of Deposits, FR-2900, and Y-8.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Assist in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements.
  • Accounting and Reconciliation: Calculate and post monthly expense accruals and general day-to-day accounting entries, as well as daily reconciliation of general ledger accounts maintained by other departments within the bank.
  • Balance Sheet Review: Review the Bank balance sheet daily to ensure it is in balance, researching and making corrections as necessary.
  • Investment Portfolio Management: Manage pledged securities and ensure accurate reporting for the Bank's government deposits, public deposits, and letter of credit guarantees.
  • Investment and Loan Management: Responsible for several aspects of the Bank's investment portfolio and securitization of purchased guaranteed loans, including creating proper documents, correspondence with outside investment agencies, maintenance of all documentation, and investment/guaranteed loan spreadsheets.
  • Certifications and Reconciliations: Assist in the monthly certifications and reconciliations maintained by accounting and other departments within the bank.
  • Employee Support: Assist employees and vendors by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services.
  • Controller Support: Support the Controller and Chief Financial Officer in performing other various accounting and reporting duties as needed.
  • Clerical Duties: Perform routine clerical duties such as photocopying, filing, posting, and tabulating.
  • Backup Support: Backup for accounts payable processing and other accounting duties as needed.
  • CRA Volunteer Hours: Minimum of 10 hours CRA volunteer hours per year, typically scheduled within business hours.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree with college-level coursework in accounting preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years accounting/finance experience required.
  • Skills: Proficient in loan accounting, advanced Excel skills required, strong analytical skills with experience in measuring and improving processes to meet department and/or organization goals.
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to work both independently (self-directed) and with others as part of a team, able to confidently interact with a variety of internal customers/management, ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments, attention to detail required with a proven ability to research and analyze financial results.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient and experience with Fiserv DNA and Prologue is not required but preferred.
Work Environment

The incumbent in this position frequently spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, operating basic business equipment, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, walking, standing, reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, client contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, multiple concurrent tasks, and frequent interruptions.

The incumbent for this position will occasionally lift up to 15 pounds, pull, squat, kneel, and reach. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which they are free to move about at will. The work environment is typically quiet to a moderate noise level.
