Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Controller

Department: Accounting/Finance

Location: On-Site

The Assistant Controller plays a vital role within the finance division, engaging in a variety of accounting and financial operations. This position is essential for ensuring precise financial reporting in compliance with GAAP, supporting the annual audit process, and maintaining adherence to all pertinent regulations as well as internal policies and procedures. Collaborating closely with the Controller, the Assistant Controller undertakes numerous responsibilities related to month-end closing activities, including but not limited to posting adjusting journal entries, reconciling balance sheets, managing fixed assets, and overseeing restricted fund and grant accounting and reporting. This role also addresses various financial reporting requirements as directed by Management. Engaging daily with a diverse array of stakeholders, including students, colleagues, and clients, this position is dedicated to delivering accurate and timely financial information while being responsive to the evolving needs of the organization.

  • General Ledger Management and Journal Entries
  • Grant and Restricted Fund Accounting
  • Month-End Closing and Financial Reporting
  • Payroll Reporting and Posting
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Annual Audit Support
  • Financial Controls Implementation
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable Management

Software and Tools:

  • Familiarity with accounting software administration; experience with Sage Intacct is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Strong familiarity with ADP payroll management software is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and associated accounting practices is highly desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Outlook, and Teams; intermediate Excel skills are required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience is essential.
