Bilingual Immigration Staff Counsel

The San Mateo County Bar Association is seeking a dedicated attorney to advocate for children in immigration matters. Our clients are primarily Spanish-speaking individuals residing in the Bay Area community. We encourage applicants from all experience levels and provide ample opportunities for professional development and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct legal assessments, client consultations, and thorough investigations, while providing legal guidance, formulating case strategies, and engaging in both oral and written advocacy to represent children in immigration cases (including SIJS, Asylum, and U and T visa applications).
  2. Represent minors in immigration proceedings, including hearings in Immigration Court and associated state court matters, as well as applications submitted to U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) and appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  3. Participate in advocacy initiatives on behalf of children, which may involve delivering community presentations to families, educational institutions, and local organizations.
  4. Act as a representative of the organization in local coalitions and collaborative efforts as necessary.
  5. Oversee and mentor legal interns.
Qualifications:
  1. Active member in good standing with the State Bar of California.
  2. Fluency in Spanish is essential.

  3. Ability to perform effectively under pressure and in urgent situations.

  5. Commitment to delivering culturally sensitive services.
  6. Strong verbal, interpersonal, writing, and interviewing abilities.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
