ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:


As a Senior Center Coordinator, you will assume an administrative role focused on overseeing and spearheading the development of programs and promoting activities tailored for seniors attending the center.

Your responsibilities include coordinating various programs and activities for the senior clientele. You will plan, facilitate, and supervise daily events, excursions, and special gatherings at the facility. Additional duties encompass managing the program budget, maintaining records, and generating reports. In your capacity as coordinator, you will also be tasked with recruiting volunteers for the center.

Moreover, you may be expected to represent the senior center within the community and organize fundraising initiatives to support budgeting efforts.

Your role will also involve liaising with local agencies that cater to seniors in our community to evaluate how we can optimally serve them.

Other tasks may include assisting in the food pantry and supporting summer camp, VBS, and other areas as requested.


SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position offers some flexibility, with hours ranging from 7 am - 3:30 pm or 7:30 am - 4 pm.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma with proven ability to oversee and coordinate activities and programs for the senior demographic.
Experience in social services or senior services is preferred but not mandatory.
Proficient reading and writing skills in English.
Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid WA Driver License.
Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records check.
Compliance with The Salvation Army's child protection policies is required.
Understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, programs, and practices.
Familiarity with photography and videography tools, technology, and editing software.
Knowledge of social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.
Ability to plan, direct, and assess the work of volunteers.
Capacity to work independently or collaboratively with other staff members.
Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.
Preferably certified in First Aid & CPR, possess a Food Handlers permit, and have undergone Bloodborne Pathogens training, which can be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
Experience working with volunteers is essential.
Capability to sustain existing programs and innovate new ones.
Ability to work autonomously with sound judgment.
Experience supervising volunteers and staff in a team or leadership capacity.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and a team player.
Ability to organize work and accomplish tasks with minimal oversight.
Flexibility in work habits is essential. Must collaborate with co-workers, assist as needed, and supervise staff.
Strong customer service and networking skills, with the ability to positively represent The Salvation Army.
Ability to communicate with clients in a constructive and impartial manner.
Skill in diffusing or negotiating challenging situations involving frustration, antagonism, anxiety, and non-compliance.

Ability to be culturally and socially sensitive to all individuals, given frequent interactions with diverse populations.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure under pressure.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal; proficient and accurate use of the English language.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS:
Maintain attendance and program statistics. Prepare monthly reports.
Receive and deposit all program fees and donations daily.
Manage public relations and promotions for the Senior Center as pre-approved by the Officers.
Contribute weekly news articles to local publications.
Draft correspondence to special interest groups, schools, and churches regarding programs offered.
Develop brochures and informational materials for new programs.
Update program information on monitors monthly.
Create a monthly calendar.
Establish goals for Senior Center programs and strive to maximize income.
Keep all files and Senior Center records current.
Stay informed about new programs, techniques, and equipment.
Handle all Senior Center correspondence.
Engage with service groups, other Salvation Army programs, community centers, churches, etc., regarding programs.
Address suggestions, incidents, accidents, and complaints professionally.

Coordinate transportation needs for senior center programs and outings with the Corps Officer and/or Program Manager.

Keep the Corps Officer and/or Program Manager updated on activities, equipment, and facility requirements.

Serve as a resource for information on Social Services for Senior Citizens and act as the contact for other agencies providing direct services to The Salvation Army Senior Center.

Demonstrate effective program planning and management skills.
Exhibit the ability to work with a wide age range of individuals.
Maintain updated information for senior clients in Wellsky.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:


Aim to create high-quality programs that cater to the needs of seniors within a two-mile radius of our center.


Senior Programs:
Establish scheduling and registration protocols.
Adhere to pre-defined lesson objectives, goals, and formats.
Implement evaluations for instructors and programs.
Design themed days, special events, guest speakers, and field trips for seniors.

Assist with corps and community center programs as necessary, such as Day Camp, Food Bank, Homework Center, and other events.


VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT:
Recruit and train volunteers to support the administration of the senior center.
Seek assistance from regular and EOC staff as needed.
Provide supervision for volunteers, assigning responsibilities, scheduling, and administering discipline when necessary.

OUTREACH INITIATIVES:
Network and connect with external agencies that offer or provide services to seniors.
Visit seniors who are unable to participate in activities at the senior center.

SEASONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with seasonal initiatives, particularly the Christmas/Kettle efforts (e.g., driving, pickups/drop-offs, etc.).
Coordinate a Kettle Kick Off for the senior center.
Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook (email and calendar).
Data Entry - capable of acquiring skills necessary for client entry.
Familiarity with basic internet skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files and file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
Ability to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls;
Ability to operate a telephone.
Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.

Health Insurance:

Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area.

Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options:
An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans:
Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years of eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave:
The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.


Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months of service time.


Paid Vacation:
Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months of service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
