GENERAL OVERVIEW:

ROLE FUNCTION:


As a Senior Center Coordinator, you will hold an administrative role where you will manage and spearhead the development of programs and promote activities tailored for the senior attendees of the center.

Your responsibilities include orchestrating programs and events for seniors, planning and overseeing daily activities, excursions, and special events. Additional duties encompass managing the program budget, maintaining documentation, and generating reports. As the coordinator, you will also be tasked with recruiting volunteers for the center.

Moreover, you may be expected to represent the senior center within the community and organize fundraising initiatives to support budgeting efforts.

Your role will also involve liaising with local agencies that cater to seniors in our community to evaluate how we can best assist them.

Other responsibilities may include assisting in the food pantry and supporting summer camp, VBS, and other areas as needed.


SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position offers some flexibility with hours ranging from 7 am - 3:30 pm or 7:30 am - 4 pm.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma with a proven ability to oversee and coordinate activities and programs for the senior demographic.
Experience in social services or senior services is preferred but not mandatory.
Proficient in reading and writing in English.
Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and possess a current WA Driver License.
Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records check.
Applicants must adhere to the child protection policies of The Salvation Army.
Understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, programs, and practices are essential.
Familiarity with photography and videography tools, technology, and editing software.
Knowledge of social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.
Ability to plan, direct, and assess the work of volunteers.
Capacity to work independently or collaboratively with other staff members.
Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.
Preferred certifications include First Aid & CPR, Food Handlers permit, and Bloodborne Pathogens training, which can be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
Experience working with volunteers is required.
Ability to sustain current programs and innovate new ones.
Ability to work autonomously with sound judgment.
Experience supervising volunteers and staff in a team environment is preferred.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADMINISTRATION:
Maintain attendance and program statistics. Prepare monthly reports.
Receipt and deposit all program fees and donations daily.
Manage public relations and promotions for the Senior Center as pre-approved by the Officers.
Write weekly news articles for local publications.
Communicate with special interest groups, schools, and churches regarding programs offered.
Develop brochures and information sheets for new initiatives.
Update program information on monitors monthly.
Prepare a monthly calendar.
Establish goals for Senior Center programs and strive to maintain optimal income levels.
Keep all files and Senior Center records current.
Stay informed on new programs, techniques, and equipment.
Handle all Senior Center correspondence.
Engage with service groups, other Salvation Army programs, community centers, churches, etc., regarding programs.
Address suggestions, incidents, accidents, and complaints professionally.

Coordinate transportation needs for senior center programs and outings with the Corps Officer and/or Program Manager.

Keep the Corps Officer and/or Program Manager updated on activities, equipment, and facility requirements.

Serve as a resource for information on Social Services for Senior Citizens and act as the liaison for other agencies providing direct services to The Salvation Army Senior Center.

Demonstrate effective program planning and management skills.
Exhibit the ability to work with a wide age range of individuals.
Maintain updated information for Senior clients in Wellsky.

PROGRAMS:


Aim to develop high-quality programs that address the needs of seniors within a two-mile radius of our center.


Senior Programs:
Establish scheduling and registration procedures.
Adhere to predetermined lesson objectives, goals, and formats.
Implement evaluations for instructors and programs.
Create themed days, special events, guest speakers, and field trips for seniors.

Assist with corps and community center programs as needed, such as Day Camp, Food Bank, Homework Center, and other events.


VOLUNTEERS:
Recruit and train volunteers to support the administration of the senior center.
Request assistance from regular and EOC staff as necessary.
Provide supervision for volunteers, including assigning duties, scheduling, and administering discipline when required.

OUTREACH:
Network and connect with external agencies that offer services to seniors.
Visit seniors who are unable to participate in activities at the senior center.

SEASONAL:
Assist with seasonal initiatives, particularly the Christmas/Kettle efforts (e.g., driving, pickups/drop-offs, etc.).
Coordinate a Kettle Kick Off for the senior center.
Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook (email and calendar).
Data Entry - capable of learning the skills required to enter client information.
Basic internet skills are essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
