Position Overview:

This role involves serving as a Special Education Resource Teacher for middle school students.

Compensation:

Starting salary for certified SPED educators is $77,000*, which includes various incentives detailed below.

*Incentives include:

  • $10,000 SPED hiring incentive
  • $5,000 Liberty County stipend
  • $3,000 Late Hire Bonus

Mission Statement:

The goal of International Leadership of Texas is to equip students for outstanding leadership roles in the global community by fostering servant leadership, fluency in English, Spanish, and Chinese, and enhancing mental, physical, and character development.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate learning experiences for special education students that promote their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. Tailor curricula and prepare instructional materials to align with individual student capabilities. Engage in various teaching capacities including self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant roles as designated.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Hold a valid Texas teaching certificate with the necessary special education endorsements for assigned duties.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

Understanding of the unique needs of students in the designated area.

Familiarity with the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal-setting process.

Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional methods for special needs students.

Strong communication skills.

Experience:

Minimum of one year of student teaching or an approved internship.

Major Duties:

Instructional Strategies:

  1. Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through the ARD Committee process.
  2. Implement instructional and therapeutic programs for assigned students, maintaining written documentation as required.
  3. Assess student learning styles and plan appropriate instructional strategies and materials.
  4. Effectively present subject matter according to IEP guidelines, utilizing diverse instructional techniques and technology.
  5. Work in partnership with classroom teachers to modify standard curricula as necessary.
  6. Regularly participate in ARD Committee meetings.
  7. Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources.

Student Development:

  1. Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress through formal and informal evaluations.
  2. Provide necessary personal and medical care for students as outlined in their IEPs.
  3. Oversee extracurricular activities as assigned.
  4. Consult with district and external resources regarding the educational and personal needs of students.

Classroom Management:

  1. Create a learning environment that is conducive to the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
  2. Manage student behavior and implement disciplinary measures as necessary.
  3. Consult with classroom teachers regarding behavior management strategies.
  4. Ensure the safety of students and the integrity of materials and facilities.
  5. Oversee the work of instructional aides and volunteers.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
  2. Engage in professional development activities to enhance job-related skills.
  3. Stay informed of and comply with all relevant regulations and policies.
  4. Compile and maintain required reports and documentation.
  5. Participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as needed.

Supervisory Duties:

Oversee the work of instructional aides.

Physical and Mental Demands:

Regularly engage in activities that require prolonged standing, walking, and lifting of students or equipment. Maintain emotional control under stress.
