POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Financial Officer plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the financial health of the organization, which operates with an annual budget of $25 million. This prominent leadership position involves driving growth, optimizing costs, and enhancing the overall financial performance of the organization.

The CFO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will lead a dedicated team of finance and payroll professionals. Responsibilities include managing daily financial operations, such as accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial statements, documenting accounting processes, overseeing payroll functions, and developing a comprehensive set of controls and budgets to mitigate risks and ensure timely reporting of results. A solid understanding of Human Resources is also essential for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Oversight and Leadership
  • Conduct routine analyses of key financial statement components to identify issues and interpret financial performance in relation to previous periods, current budgets, and external benchmarks.
  • Develop and maintain the necessary infrastructure (policies, procedures, and systems) to safeguard all corporate assets, including cash, investments, inventory, fixed and intangible assets, and contractual obligations.
  • Lead a highly efficient Finance and Human Resources team, promoting cross-training and ensuring transparency for business continuity.
  • Collaborate with service directors to strategize funding structures and development initiatives.
  • Engage in financial planning and the creation of annual operating and capital budgets, including projections for operations, balance sheets, and cash flow.
  • Oversee the annual budgeting and planning process alongside the Senior Leadership Team and CEO; review all financial plans and budgets, monitor progress, and keep the Senior Leadership Team informed of the organization's financial status.
  • Manage tax reporting and ensure timely preparation and filing of necessary reports and tax remittances.
  • Effectively communicate critical financial matters to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, including the annual audit process and liaising with external auditors.
  • Implement a robust fiscal management and reporting system to ensure accurate financial data and consistent cash flow to support operational needs.
  • Stay informed on regulations, industry trends, and applicable financial reporting laws to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee property insurance coverage and participate in Board meetings as required.
Accounting Functions
  • Establish and supervise efficient accounting systems.
  • Organize and maintain comprehensive records of revenue and expenditures.
  • Analyze and present financial reports accurately and promptly; communicate monthly and annual financial statements clearly.
  • Review financial reports with the Finance Committee, CEO, and Program Directors.
  • Manage transaction processing, including general ledger, billing, collections, payroll, and accounts payable.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all corporate records.
  • Ensure timely filing of reports to funding sources.
Payroll Management
  • Establish and oversee efficient payroll procedures.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure timely compensation for all staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws regarding compensation.
Human Resources Collaboration
  • Provide oversight and support to the Human Resources team, working closely with the Director of People and Culture.
  • Participate in annual insurance renewal processes in collaboration with the CEO and Director of People and Culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting or fiscal management, preferably in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, finance, budgeting, and planning.
  • Familiarity with Development Disability Administration funding and billing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of employment law and Human Resources regulations.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to operationalize financial objectives.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and hold team members accountable.
  • In-depth understanding of not-for-profit accounting practices and financial reporting.

Salary Range - $150K - $170K
