POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the financial stewardship of an organization with an annual budget of $25 million. This executive position is essential for driving growth, optimizing costs, and enhancing the overall financial health of the organization.

The CFO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will lead a proficient team of accounting and payroll specialists. Responsibilities include managing daily financial operations, overseeing accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial statements, and documenting accounting processes. The CFO will also be responsible for developing a comprehensive set of controls and budgets to mitigate risks, improve accuracy, and ensure timely reporting of results. A solid understanding of Human Resources is also essential for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Oversight and Leadership
  • Conduct routine analyses of key financial statement components to identify areas needing attention and interpret financial performance in relation to previous periods, current budgets, and external benchmarks.
  • Develop and maintain the necessary infrastructure (policies, procedures, and systems) to safeguard all corporate assets, including cash, investments, inventory, fixed and intangible assets, and contractual obligations.
  • Lead a Finance and Human Resources team that operates efficiently, ensuring cross-training and transparency for business continuity.
  • Collaborate with service directors to strategize funding structure changes and development initiatives.
  • Oversee financial planning and the development of annual operating and capital budgets, including long-term forecasts.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process alongside the Senior Leadership Team and CEO; review all financial plans and budgets, monitor progress, and keep the leadership team informed of the organization’s financial status.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and government financial reporting requirements, overseeing the preparation and timely filing of reports.
  • Effectively communicate critical financial matters to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Implement a robust fiscal management and reporting system to ensure accurate financial data and steady cash flow.
  • Stay updated on regulations, industry trends, and financial reporting laws to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain and monitor property insurance coverage.
  • Participate in Board meetings and other necessary discussions.
Accounting Management
  • Establish and supervise efficient accounting systems.
  • Organize and maintain comprehensive records of revenue and expenditures.
  • Analyze and present financial reports accurately and promptly; communicate monthly and annual financial statements clearly.
  • Review financial reports with the Finance Committee, CEO, and Program Directors.
  • Oversee transaction processing, including general ledger, billing, collections, payroll, and accounts payable.
  • Ensure the preservation of all corporate records with up-to-date inventories.
  • Manage billing and accounts receivable processes.
  • Timely filing of reports to funding sources.
Payroll Management
  • Establish and oversee efficient payroll procedures.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Ensure timely and accurate compensation for all staff.
  • Guarantee timely payment of taxes and benefit premiums.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant compensation laws.
Human Resources Oversight
  • Provide oversight and support to the Human Resources team under the Director of People and Culture.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Director of People and Culture on annual insurance renewals.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; a Master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting or fiscal management; experience in the not-for-profit sector is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, and planning for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity with Development Disability Administration funding and billing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of employment law and Human Resources regulations.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to implement financial objectives effectively.
  • Proven ability to motivate and hold team members accountable.
  • Knowledge of best practices in not-for-profit accounting and financial reporting.

Salary Range - $150K - $170K
