Position Overview

The U.S. Courts is seeking a visionary and effective leader for the role of Clerk of Court. This executive-level position is pivotal in overseeing the operational and administrative functions of the Court.

Key Responsibilities

The Clerk of Court will work collaboratively with other district courts and the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. This role involves significant interaction with the Court's District Executive and managing a team of 174 employees serving 45 U.S. District Judges and 18 Magistrate Judges. The Clerk operates under the guidance of the Chief District Judge and engages with various committees and Court Unit Executives.

Core Duties:
  • Supervising all filings in civil and criminal matters while ensuring the integrity of official records.
  • Enhancing the delivery of Court services through collaboration with the Bar and the public.
  • Advising the Court on procedural matters and local rules affecting Court operations.
  • Coordinating with governmental agencies to facilitate Court business.
  • Strategically planning to foster excellence in a resource-constrained environment.
  • Promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace that values all members of the Court community.
  • Providing the necessary administrative and operational support to fulfill the Court's mission, including personnel management and training program development.
  • Managing the Clerk's Office budget and overseeing financial operations.
  • Preparing statistical reports as required by the Court and related offices.
  • Overseeing staff responsible for technology services, cybersecurity, and human resources management.
  • Managing jury selection processes and improving juror utilization.
Qualifications

Required:
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in public service or business.
  • A bachelor's degree in government, public, business, or judicial administration or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a substantial management role at an executive level.
  • Ability to lead with vision and foster effective working relationships.
Preferred:
  • Completion of a Juris Doctor (JD) degree or a master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Prior managerial experience in a federal or state judicial system.
  • Strong organizational, prioritizing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to mediate conflicts effectively.
