Job Summary

The U.S. Courts are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our Law Library Management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the administration and operational management of our library and legal services section.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Supervise a team of library employees, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure the successful delivery of library services.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the effective management of the library and its resources.
  • Library Operations
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the library, including the management of library collections, research services, and training programs.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve library services and resources, ensuring they meet the needs of our users.
  • Research and Training
    • Conduct complex research in various areas of the law, regulatory and legislative histories, and other court-related areas.
    • Develop and deliver training programs for court employees, judges, and law clerks on the use of legal research databases and other library resources.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including court employees, judges, and external partners, to ensure the successful delivery of library services.
    • Collaborate with other teams and departments to ensure the effective management of library resources and services.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of four years of library experience, preferably in a law library setting.
    • Two years of progressively responsible supervisory experience that provided an opportunity to acquire skill in developing the interpersonal work relationships needed to lead a team of employees.
  • Skills
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of legal resources and excellent legal research skills.
    • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and publishing applications.
